Consumer prices rose 3.5% in the 12 months through March 2024, up from 3.2% in February. Core inflation, which excludes food and energy, ran 3.8%. The CPI-U index stood at 312.332, a 0.6% change from the prior month (not seasonally adjusted).

Over the twelve months ending March 2024, prices rose fastest in motor vehicle insurance (22.2%), owners' equivalent rent (5.9%), rent of primary residence (5.7%), while airline fares prices fell (-7.1%).
