Consumer prices rose 3.2% in the 12 months through February 2024, up from 3.1% in January. Core inflation, which excludes food and energy, ran 3.8%. The CPI-U index stood at 310.326, a 0.6% change from the prior month (not seasonally adjusted).

Over the twelve months ending February 2024, prices rose fastest in motor vehicle insurance (20.6%), owners' equivalent rent (6.0%), rent of primary residence (5.8%), while utility (piped) gas service prices fell (-8.8%).
