InflationCalculator.com is an independent inflation calculator built and maintained by Hugo Miggels, a self-taught software builder and telecom company co-founder.
The site was created to make U.S. inflation calculations faster, clearer, and easier to verify. Every result is calculated from official Consumer Price Index data published by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, using the methodology documented on this site.
This is not an economic forecasting site, and nothing here is financial advice. The goal is narrower: show how the purchasing power of U.S. dollars has changed over time, explain the calculation, cite the source data, and be clear about the limits of CPI-based comparisons.
What this site does
InflationCalculator.com converts dollar amounts between years using CPI-U, the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers. The calculator, year pages, current inflation page, and data tables are generated from the same source dataset so results stay consistent across the site.
The interpretation is left to the reader. The site provides the numbers, the formula, the source data, and the limitations.
How the data stays current
The data pipeline checks for new CPI releases from the BLS, validates the incoming data, and rebuilds the site from the latest available dataset. The data sources page shows when the dataset was last refreshed and which release is currently used.
Because current-year figures are based on incomplete annual data until all twelve months are published, those results are marked as provisional and updated after new CPI releases.
Corrections and transparency
The site is maintained as a version-controlled project. If you spot a wrong number, broken citation, unclear explanation, or calculation issue, please get in touch. Corrections are made on the relevant page, and data updates are reflected in the update log.
